Messi Suffers Hamstring Fatigue Ahead of Argentina Training Camp
Lionel Messi has been diagnosed with left hamstring fatigue, according to his club side Inter Miami CF, just days before Argentina begins preparations for its upcoming World Cup campaign.
The Major League Soccer club confirmed on Monday that medical examinations revealed “an overload associated with muscle fatigue in his left hamstring”. The team added that Messi’s return to training and competitive action will depend on his recovery progress.

Messi appeared uncomfortable during Inter Miami’s MLS clash against the Philadelphia Union on Sunday night. The Argentine star was substituted in the 73rd minute after repeatedly grabbing the back of his left leg during the second half.

Despite the discomfort, Messi managed to leave the field without assistance and headed directly to the dressing room. Inter Miami eventually secured a thrilling 6-4 victory, with Messi contributing two assists in the first half.

Heavy rainfall during the second half made playing conditions difficult, though it remains unclear whether the slippery pitch contributed to the injury concern.
The timing of the setback has created uncertainty around Argentina’s upcoming international schedule. The defending world champions are set to begin training camp ahead of two friendly matches next month.
Argentina will first face Honduras on June 6 in Texas before taking on Iceland on June 9 in Alabama.

The South American giants are placed in Group J for the upcoming World Cup, where they will face Algeria, Austria and Jordan in the group stage.
Messi, who has already featured in five FIFA World Cups, remains one of the most important players for Argentina. He famously guided the team to World Cup glory in 2022 and became the only player to win the tournament’s Golden Ball award twice.
