Abhishek and Tilak Shine as India Beat Pakistan to Retain Asian Games GolD

India defeated Pakistan by 19 runs in the men’s cricket final of the Asian Games 2026, successfully defending the gold medal it had won at the previous edition. In a high-profile final in Nisshin, India scored 211 for 6 in 20 overs after being asked to bat first, while Pakistan managed 192 for 6 in its allotted 20 overs. :

India’s victory was built around an explosive batting performance at crucial stages of the innings. Opening batter Abhishek Sharma gave the team a flying start with a brilliant 61 off just 28 balls. He struck three fours and seven sixes, putting Pakistan’s bowling attack under pressure from the beginning.

After Abhishek’s dismissal, Tilak Varma produced a sensational finish. He remained unbeaten on 51 from only 22 deliveries, hitting three fours and four sixes. His late assault, along with Shivam Dube’s contribution, helped India cross the 200-run mark and post a formidable total of 211/6. :

 India Loses Early Wickets

India won the toss and chose to bat first. The team suffered a couple of early setbacks as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Sanju Samson failed to make significant contributions.

Vaibhav scored 15 from nine balls, including two sixes, before being dismissed. Sanju Samson followed after scoring only two runs. Despite the early wickets, Abhishek continued his attacking approach and kept the scoreboard moving quickly.

After Abhishek was dismissed, Ishan Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer attempted to stabilize the innings but could not convert their starts into big scores. India then relied on its lower-middle order to accelerate during the final overs. :

Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube provided the crucial late acceleration. Their aggressive strokeplay during the closing stages pushed India to 211/6 after 20 overs, giving Pakistan a target of 212 for the gold medal. :

 Pakistan Struggles During the Chase

Pakistan needed 212 runs to win the gold medal but did not get the start it needed. The team lost important wickets during the early stages of the chase, putting pressure on the middle order.

Captain Sahibzada Farhan was dismissed after scoring 10 runs, while Usman Khan also failed to make a significant contribution. Pakistan then lost another wicket as the Indian bowling attack continued to apply pressure.

At one stage, Pakistan had lost three wickets for around 39 runs. The situation changed when Saim Ayub and Hasan Nawaz began rebuilding the innings. Their partnership gave Pakistan hope and brought the team back into the contest.

### Hasan Nawaz Keeps Pakistan Alive

Hasan Nawaz produced one of the most impressive individual performances of the match. He scored a superb 96 off 51 balls and kept Pakistan’s chase alive deep into the innings.

Nawaz attacked the Indian bowlers throughout his stay at the crease, hitting five fours and seven sixes. His aggressive batting kept the required run rate within reach for a large part of the second innings.

However, India continued to take wickets at important moments. The pressure increased during the final overs, and Pakistan eventually fell short despite Nawaz’s outstanding effort. He was dismissed for 96 on the final ball of the match.  Indian Bowlers Finish the Job

After setting a strong total, India’s bowlers had the responsibility of defending 211. Pakistan’s chase became dangerous whenever Hasan Nawaz found the boundary, but India continued to attack through wickets.

Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube were among the Indian bowlers who played important roles in breaking Pakistan’s partnerships and maintaining pressure. As wickets fell, Pakistan’s required run rate continued to rise

Pakistan eventually finished on 192/6 after 20 overs, giving India a 19-run victory. The result secured the gold medal for India and allowed the team to retain its Asian Games men

India Retains the Gold Medal

The victory means India has successfully defended its Asian Games men’s cricket gold medal. India’s women’s cricket team had also won gold in the competition, completing a double gold-medal success for Indian cricket at the 2026 Games.

Abhishek Sharma’s explosive start, Tilak Varma’s unbeaten half-century and the Indian bowlers’ ability to take wickets at crucial moments proved decisive. Pakistan had a major contribution from Hasan Nawaz, whose 96-run innings kept the chase alive until the final ball.

India ultimately finished the final on top with a 19-run victory. Pakistan took the silver medal, while Sri Lanka secured the bronze medal in the men’s cricket competition.
