Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi Sit Under Tree During INDIA Bloc Protest March

Opposition parties have intensified their protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of irregularities in electoral rolls and disputes surrounding the election process. Leaders of the INDIA bloc marched towards the Election Commission headquarters in New Delhi, demanding Gyanesh Kumar's resignation. However, security personnel stopped the march using barricades. Following the stoppage, Congress MPs Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi sat under a tree inside the Akashvani premises.

The protest has drawn attention to the continuing political dispute over electoral rolls and the Special Intensive Revision, commonly known as SIR. Opposition parties have questioned the transparency of the process and called for explanations regarding alleged changes to voter lists. They have also demanded that the Chief Election Commissioner be held accountable for the concerns raised by opposition leaders.

### March Stopped by Barricades

The INDIA bloc march was moving towards the Election Commission headquarters when security personnel stopped the protesters near the NITI Aayog office. Barricades were placed along the route to prevent the march from proceeding further. Following the intervention, opposition MPs stopped at the site and began raising slogans in support of their demands.

Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi joined the protest after the march was halted. Both Congress leaders were later seen sitting under a tree inside the Akashvani premises. Opposition MPs continued to raise slogans against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, including slogans accusing him of involvement in alleged electoral irregularities.

Rahul Gandhi had also been seen climbing a barricade while holding the national flag during the protest. The episode became one of the prominent moments of the demonstration, which focused on demands for electoral transparency and accountability.

Opposition leaders argued that the questions surrounding electoral rolls should be addressed and that the Election Commission should provide clear explanations regarding the concerns raised by political parties.

### Akhilesh Yadav Joins the Protest

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also reached the protest site. His presence added to the participation of opposition leaders in the demonstration. MPs continued to raise slogans against Gyanesh Kumar and reiterated their concerns about alleged changes to electoral rolls.

Opposition parties maintain that electoral rolls are a fundamental part of the democratic process and that any suspected irregularities must be examined carefully. They have called for transparency in the process of adding and removing names from voter lists and have stressed that eligible voters should not be wrongly excluded.

### Pawan Khera Questions Gyanesh Kumar

Congress MP Pawan Khera criticised Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar during the demonstration. He said the opposition had never trusted Gyanesh Kumar and claimed that recent developments had strengthened its concerns about his credibility.

His remarks reflected the Congress party's position that the Election Commission's functioning requires greater scrutiny. Opposition parties have continued to demand Gyanesh Kumar's resignation and accountability over the issues raised concerning electoral rolls.

### Ram Gopal Yadav Raises Concerns Over Deleted Votes

Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav described the alleged deletion of voters' names as a serious concern for democracy. He argued that if large numbers of people were removed from electoral rolls and this affected the process of forming a government, it would raise significant questions about democratic representation.

Yadav also said that failing to protest against such issues would undermine the significance of other forms of political opposition. His remarks highlighted the Samajwadi Party's demand for answers regarding the alleged changes to electoral rolls.

The allegations concerning voter deletions and electoral manipulation represent the opposition's claims. Assessing them requires examining the relevant records, available evidence and responses from the authorities concerned.

### Vivek Tankha Calls It a Fight to Protect Democracy

Congress MP Vivek Tankha described the protest as a struggle to protect democracy. He questioned the Election Commission's functioning and alleged that the institution was operating under the influence of the government. He said the opposition considered the situation unacceptable and was therefore continuing its protest.

Tankha's remarks reflected the broader opposition campaign focusing on electoral transparency, institutional independence and the protection of voting rights. Opposition parties have argued that maintaining public confidence in the electoral process is essential to democratic functioning.

### Iqra Hasan Questions the Commission's Decision-Making

Samajwadi Party MP Iqra Hasan also raised questions about the functioning of the Election Commission. She referred to a report and claimed that consensus had not been reached on decisions on 14 occasions. She further alleged that opposition parties had questioned the Chief Election Commissioner's impartiality from the beginning.

Her remarks added to the debate over the Commission's decision-making process. Opposition MPs have called for greater transparency and impartiality in decisions affecting elections and voter registration.

### Security Tightened Across Central Delhi

Security arrangements were strengthened in several prominent areas of central Delhi ahead of and during the demonstration. Large numbers of Delhi Police personnel were deployed around Jantar Mantar and nearby locations. Barricades were placed at multiple points around the Election Commission office and along the march route.

Police personnel monitored the movement of people and vehicles in the area. Security forces were instructed to remain prepared to handle any law-and-order situation that might arise during the protest.

Some opposition MPs participating in the march also carried cut-outs depicting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar wearing the uniform of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. The display was used by protesters to express their political criticism of the Commission's impartiality.

### Electoral Rolls and SIR Remain at the Centre of the Dispute

The demonstration took place amid an ongoing political debate over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Opposition parties have demanded transparency in the process and called for careful scrutiny of changes made to voter lists.

They argue that procedures for adding or removing names must follow clear rules and that eligible voters must be protected from wrongful exclusion. A conclusive assessment of the allegations, however, requires examination of the relevant records, official explanations and available evidence.

For now, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi sitting under a tree inside the Akashvani premises, along with the INDIA bloc's march towards the Election Commission, have become key developments in the political dispute. Opposition parties continue to demand Gyanesh Kumar's resignation and answers concerning electoral rolls. The next phase of the controversy will depend on the opposition's further actions and the responses of the authorities concerned.
